The next IDABC OSS Event will take place on 8 February 2007 in Badajóz, in the Spanish Region of Extremadura. It is jointly organised with the Regional Ministry on Infrastructures and Technological Development of Extremadura - in parallel with the 3rd Free Software World Conference.

The IDABC Event in Badajóz will focus on the recently started OSOR project, where OSOR stands for “Open Source Observatory and Repository" for European public administrations.

The OSOR project was initiated by IDABC in order to create a platform to actively support the sharing of OSS-based eGovernment applications and experiences across Europe – connecting EU services and Member States.

The OSOR is to become:

§ A pan-European information platform on OSS: continuing and improving the work of the IDABC Open Source Observatory OSO in providing news, guidance, links, contacts;

§ A platform for uploading and downloading software produced by and for public administrations: providing registry and repository for software;

§ A platform/forge for cross-border collaboration: providing technical, organisational, and legal support.

The OSOR is supposed to become the preferred cooperation tool to speed up software pooling amongst Member State administrations.

The IDABC event in Badajóz will:

§ Provide information on the OSOR project and its activities;

§ Present similar repository projects in European Member States;

§ Take input requirements from potential stakeholders.

The workshop targets primarily public service representatives involved or desiring to become involved in collaborative projects at the European level. Representatives from organisations and companies may also communicate their interest in participation. Since seats are limited, participation can only be guaranteed after confirmation by IDABC.

Note: The participants of the IDABC workshop will have free access to the Free Software World Conference 3.0  that will take place from 7 to 9 February 2007. English interpretation will be provided for the plenary sessions. The participants will also be able to learn more about and get in contact with representatives of the well-known OSS initiative of the Regional Government of Extremadura:  http://www.linex.org/.
